Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta felt that Juventus showed their inferiority to Inter, despite winning the Derby d’Italia 3-2 yesterday.

The Bianconeri boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League by overcoming the Serie A title winners at the Allianz Stadium, although the match was overshadowed by a series of controversial refereeing decisions.

Appearing on Italian television channel Sky Sport Italia to review the match today, Costacurta praised Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus for their determination to secure victory, but argued that they were not as strong as Inter, Atalanta, or Milan.

“Juventus had the right spirit against Inter, but this season they have proven to be inferior, in that sense, compared to all those that are above them in the table,” Costacurta argued.

The Bianconeri have endured a difficult season after nine consecutive league titles, with Pirlo under pressure to break into the top four in his debut campaign at the club.

Juventus currently trail Napoli by a single point going into the final round of fixtures next weekend, whilst they are level on points with Milan but have an inferior head-to-head record, ahead of the Rossoneri’s match against Cagliari this evening.
