Inter striker Romelu Lukaku showed his leadership and goalscoring prowess during the Nerazzurri’s 3-2 defeat to Juventus yesterday, according to Italian media.
The Belgian international fired in from the penalty spot and forced Giorgio Chiellini into an own goal, as Antonio Conte’s side fell to a controversial defeat in the Derby d’Italia at the Allianz Stadium.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku was amongst Inter’s best performers and showed the greatest desire to drag his team to victory, whilst giving Chiellini a difficult afternoon.
Lukaku became only the fourth Inter player to score at least 23 goals in consecutive seasons, after Giuseppe Meazza, Stefano Nyers, and Mauro Icardi, and the newspaper drew comparisons with the latter.
Having been brought in to replace former captain Icardi in 2019, Lukaku showed his leadership despite not wearing the armband, and has been as prolific as the Argentine whilst also delivering a Scudetto.
The former Manchester United striker is now targeting a brace against Udinese on the final day of the season to match his best ever tally of 25, achieved with Everton in the Premier League in 2016-17.
