Zinho Vanheusden insists he is happy at Standard Liege amid speculation he could re-sign for Inter.
The 21-year-old finally returned to action after a long-term injury on Thursday, playing the final nine minutes as Standard Liege lost a play-off match at home to Mechelen.
Inter are thought to have an option in their agreement with the Jupiler Pro League side to re-sign Vanheusden for around €16 million.
However, Vanheusden told reporters last night (via lesoir.be): “I want to stay at Standard Liege because I feel good here.
“I haven’t opened any discussions with anyone, I’m leaving my agent to deal with things.
“I’ve been playing as a professional for four seasons and I still haven’t had the chance to play a full season, because of three injuries and the terrible COVID-19 virus.
“I’m convinced I can do well if I am in a good physical condition, but I don’t want to rush things.
“I need to go one step at a time, without forcing anything.”
Inter are likely to need at least one new centre-back in the summer with Andrea Ranocchia, Aleksandar Kolarov and Danilo D’Ambrosio all out of contract after June 30.
Vanheusden is one of the names mooted as a possible reinforcement, but concerns over his fitness – as well as Inter’s financial issues – could well lead to him staying in Belgium.
He played 25 minutes as a substitute yesterday as Standard Liege lost against Mechelen for the second time in four days.
