Antonio Conte and Beppe Marotta have set their sights on building a long-term project at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per La Repubblica, Conte and the club’s directors would like to stay with the Nerazzurri and create a ‘winning cycle’, following this season’s Serie A title triumph.
Conte and Marotta are both awaiting reassurance from owners Suning that they will not sell off too many key players in the summer.
Both are hoping Inter will aim to strengthen in the transfer window, despite the limited room for maneouvre due to the club’s financial problems.
Suning have made it clear they must pursue a policy of austerity at Inter, following the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the closure of stadiums to all supporters.
Everyone is aware Inter will have to make a sacrifice of some kind, but Conte and the directors want to understand how much of the money brought in will be reinvested into new signings.
Meanwhile, Inter’s salary issues are ongoing as the club now have only 11 days to pay their players’ monthly installments for November and December 2020.
The Nerazzurri have been given until June 24 to settle the installment for March, after the Italian Football Federation pushed back their deadline following a request from Serie A’s clubs.
Inter must then pay the installments for April and May before June 30, otherwise they risk not being allowed to register for Serie A next season.
In that sense, the report said the news of Oaktree Capital’s imminent arrival as minority shareholders was like ‘a breath of fresh air’.
