Nicolo Barella is a fan favourite at Inter and now he has won the heart of a Nerazzurri treble legend as well.

The midfielder has enjoyed a spectacular second season at San Siro after his move from Cagliari in 2019, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

Antonio Conte has reportedly included Barella on a list of ‘six untouchables’ that Inter must not sell in the summer, and that news will be music to Julio Cesar’s ears.

Inter’s former goalkeeper told Inter TV earlier this week: “There’s one player in particular who’s struck me, and it’s the blondie in midfield: Barella.

“I really like this guy for his simplicity and his consistency; he’s a tough player.”

Inter relied heavily on the goals of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez this season and Cesar was keen to stress their importance to Conte’s side.

“I think the Lukaku-Lautaro partnership has been crucial,” the Brazilian argued.

“They’ve finalised all the work that starts from Inter’s defenders at the back.”

Cesar also explained the secret behind Inter’s title triumph this season, praising his former club for how they had dealt so professionally with all their fixtures against less fancied opponents.

“I’d say that every match is important if you want to win the Scudetto,” Cesar, who left Inter in 2013, added.

“There are obviously those famous games which are worth six points, as people say, but you also win league titles by playing with teams who are considered ‘smaller’.

“Those are important games because anything can happen when you play Juventus or AC Milan, but you can’t drop any points against the smaller teams.

“Inter have done well this season to maintain that consistency, that’s the important work you need to do to become champions of Italy.

“You have to be concentrated in every game.”
