Steven Zhang is making little progress in his quest to cut Inter’s wage bill, a report in the Italian media explained today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition confirmed that Inter’s players had rejected Zhang’s request to give up two months of their salaries.

Zhang’s alternative solution is to defer the payment of those two installments until next season, when Inter’s financial situation might have improved.

However, the Nerazzurri’s players are not convinced by this option either, especially the non-Italian players who have interest from other clubs ahead of the transfer window.

Zhang has made it very clear to everyone at Inter that cost-cutting will be the order of the day for this summer, the Rome-based paper added.

More specifically, he wants to reduce the club’s operating costs by 10-15% in order to stabilise the Nerazzurri’s finances.

Inter’s president wanted players to make a concession to Suning by giving up part of their salary, but it seems that proposal has fallen on deaf ears.
