Antonio Conte is set for ‘a day of reckoning’ when he meets Inter president Steven Zhang later, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per Libero’s print edition, Conte will meet Zhang along with Inter’s directors at Appiano Gentile at 18:00 CET, unless the summit is rescheduled at the last moment.
Conte, Beppe Marotta, Piero Ausilio and Alessandro Antonello are looking for clarity over Suning’s plans for the club heading into next season, after which they will decide their futures.
Inter still have one game left before the end of this season but the 2020-21 campaign has already begun, the report warned, because signings and sales ‘cannot be improvised’.
If Zhang promises to continue with Inter’s project, keeping hold of the club’s key players and only sacrificing one or two players for financial reasons, everyone will be happy to keep working together.
On the other hand, if Inter’s president insists that the Nerazzurri must cut costs – seeking wage cuts and potentially selling anyone who receives an interesting offer – then Conte and Inter’s directors could all choose to leave.
However, this latter scenario is said to be ‘by far the least likely’, which suggests Conte is expected to continue at Inter.
