At one stage it looked like Christian Eriksen’s time with Inter Milan in Serie A could be short-lived, and a swift return to the Premier League was being mooted.

However, the Denmark international has shown his quality and character to stick it out, and now it looks like his future is bright at the Nerazzurri.

Eriksen Comes Through Winter Test

As Inter Milan entered the dark winter months of the season, the situation was looking pretty gloomy for Eriksen following his high-profile move from Tottenham. There was plenty of talk of unrest for the midfielder at the San Siro, and reports the player was concerned by his lack of starts under head coach Antonio Conte.

There were suggestions Eriksen might have feared for his place in the Danish national side, especially with Euro 2020 on the way this summer.

Denmark find themselves alongside Finland, Belgium and Russia in Group B, and those looking to follow the Dane’s fortunes can use streaming sites like Sporticos, who will be showing the Euros online. Sporticos will provide match previews, post-game reports and stats on Denmark, and all the nations challenging for the title this summer.

National head coach Kasper Hjulmand will have been hoping for a change in the fortunes of his star man Eriksen before the tournament, and that’s just what he’s got.

In reality, it was highly unlikely Eriksen’s place in the national side was in jeopardy, but clearly the 29-year-old was unhappy with his lot at Inter.

The player had become frustrated at Tottenham with his time on the bench under Jose Mourinho, and the former Ajax star wouldn’t accept a bit part at Inter.

A Turn in the Tide

It took longer than expected, but Eriksen has finally managed to settle into Conte’s rigid management style and is now a regular in the first team. The playmaker impressed in the Inter midfield to help the club wrap up their first Serie A title for 11 years.

It has been a real transformation for a player who looked eager to leave and was being linked with a move back to England in the January transfer window.

The likes of Manchester United, Wolves, Leicester City and former club Spurs were all linked with a move. However, after helping the Nerazzurri to the title, Eriksen is eager to “build something beautiful” at the San Siro.

Eriksen Could Be Key to Long-Term Success

While Inter landed the title this term, there is no doubt rivals Juventus will look to come back stronger after finally releasing their grip on the Italian crown. Juve has dominated for the previous nine seasons, and the Old Lady will be more determined than ever to return to the top of the pile.

With that in mind, it’s vital Inter not only invest over the summer but also keep their star players at the club. Eriksen’s strong end to the season shows how important he can be for the club going forward.

Should Inter manage to stay ahead of the chasing pack again, and win the Serie A title next term, then it would be easy to see Eriksen playing a key role.

This season has been a campaign of ups and downs for Eriksen, but it looks like the Scandinavian star is all the better for it.
