Nicolo Barella has only one regret about Inter’s Serie A title triumph.

The Nerazzurri were crowned champions for the first time since 2010 earlier this month, with the trophy finally due to be lifted after Sunday’s final game against Udinese.

Inter have played in front of empty stadiums throughout the season though, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Barella is left wondering what might have been.

“It would have been an incredible feeling to celebrate the Scudetto with fans,” the 24-year-old told Sport Mediaset (via FcInterNews.it) today, after receiving an award at the Gentleman Award ceremony.

“It was already beautiful as it was, I can only imagine what it would have been like with supporters.”

Barella was voted the best ‘gentleman’ of Inter’s season by supporters and the midfielder was more than grateful for the recognition.

“I’m very pleased, I’d like to thank whoever thought of me,” he added.

“I’ll always try to be an example.”

Barella will now look ahead to representing Italy at this summer’s European Championships, where Roberto Mancini’s side are due to go far.

“It would be a beautiful feeling,” Barella admitted.

“For now I’m enjoying this award and we’ll see what the future holds.”

Inter are set to be without Barella for Sunday’s Serie A finale at home to Udinese, after he was operated on his nose earlier this week.
