Antonio Conte is being urged to stay at Inter by his own players, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Corriere dello Sport’s print edition revealed the Nerazzurri’s squad was asking Conte about his future during their celebratory lunch in Milan on Wednesday.
Conte told them he could not say anything until he had met with Inter president Steven Zhang, where he will ask for clarity over Suning’s plans for the club.
In any case, it is very clear that Inter’s players would want to continue working with Conte after this season’s Serie A title triumph.
Conte’s relationship with the squad has only become tighter over recent months, the report explained, due to Inter’s off-field turmoil and well-documented financial troubles.
Inter’s head coach played a crucial role in keeping everyone united and focused on their mission of winning the Scudetto, the club’s first since 2010.
Conte is considered a reference point for everyone at Inter and that was further demonstrated when he met fans outside training yesterday, who also implored him to remain as head coach.
He is no longer seen as a Juventus icon, the Rome-based paper argued, and there was no guarantee he would enter supporters’ heads and hearts like that when he joined Inter back in 2019.
