Romelu Lukaku is keen for Inter to keep hold of Antonio Conte and begin a long-term project.

Conte is due to meet Steven Zhang and Inter’s directors before the end of this weekend to discuss his future at the club, following Inter’s €275 million deal with Oaktree Capital.

The Nerazzurri’s head coach will not commit his future to Inter until he has understood Suning’s plans going forward, but Conte’s star striker wants him to stick around.

“It’s a good moment for us,” Lukaku told Sport Mediaset (via FcInterNews.it) today, after receiving an award for Inter’s best goal of the 2020-21 season at the Gentleman Award ceremony.

“We’re a really strong team and we have a good coach: let’s hope we can keep it going.”

Lukaku received the Gentleman Award for his exceptional solo goal against AC Milan in February, when Conte’s side pulled clear of their Serie A title rivals with a 3-0 win.

“It was a great game because we won,” the 27-year-old added.

“I’m very happy for the players, Conte, the staff and the club.”

The Belgian has scored 63 goals in 94 appearances since joining Inter in a club-record transfer from Manchester United in 2019.

Lukaku is due to start again for Inter when they host Udinese on Sunday.
