Inter coach Antonio Conte is set to meet with President Steven Zhang this week to determine his future at the club.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, Zhang’s appointment with the Scudetto-winning coach was expected to take place before tomorrow’s final Serie A match of the season, against Udinese, but CEO Beppe Marotta will be unavailable until Monday.
Marotta is currently in Rome attending FIGC business, but his return will see the key parties at the club gather to reach an understanding on Zhang’s plans for next season and if they align with Conte’s vision.
With Inter looking to cut costs significantly, the coach may be willing to accept two senior players being sold provided that the club replace them with his own targets and remain in charge.
Alternatively, the downsizing may yet prove to be beyond Conte’s willingness to remain and he may instead look to walk away, with the hope of receiving a severance package.
The newspaper suggests that the former situation is more likely and that Conte will stay on to defend the Serie A title, but this could change depending on the meeting with Zhang.
