Inter coach Antonio Conte is set to meet President Steven Zhang tomorrow to discuss his future at the Nerazzurri, and his decision could have a wider impact on the club.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, Conte must be convinced to stay at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza amidst fears that Zhang will cut costs and offload key players.
The coach is set for a showdown with Zhang on Monday and will listen to his plans for the summer before considering whether to commit his future to the club, but a decision to walk away could see Inter’s group of directors also leave.
Like Conte, Beppe Marotta, Piero Ausilio, and Dario Baccin are all out of contract in 2022 and are expected to depart with the coach, rather than see out their final year without him.
Meanwhile, some of the Inter squad are believed to be watching proceedings carefully and consider Conte to be a significant factor in their development. They would also view him remaining as a sign that the club are ready to challenge for the Scudetto again next season.
