Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was overjoyed to have finally lifted silverware with the club after helping them win the Scudetto this season.

The Nerazzurri captain played the first half of Inter’s 5-1 thrashing of Udinese in the final game of the season today, before returning to the pitch to the lift the Serie A trophy, as the club won it’s first league title since 2010.

In an interview with Inter TV following the title celebrations, Handanovic admitted he was delighted to have finally won a trophy after nine years at the club, but admitted that attention was already turning to the next triumph.

“Now we have to set new goals immediately, this is the life of footballers and sportsmen. Once you have achieved a goal you have to think immediately about targeting a new one,” the Slovenia international revealed.

“For me, today is a satisfaction that I cannot express in words, but I am really happy for the whole world of Inter who, after so many years of suffering, were finally able to rejoice.”

The former Udinese goalkeeper claimed that the strong team spirit within the Inter squad had been a decisive factor in their Scudetto triumph, as well as the impact of coach Antonio Conte on the team.

“The relationship off the pitch is beautiful. With the victories the group certainly grows more easily, but we were united before.

“Then we have to thank the coach who put the right pressure on us to reach the goal. Today I lost my voice a bit from screaming on the pitch and singing with the fans. It doesn’t happen every day and it’s beautiful,” he added.

Handanovic was replaced at half-time against the Zebrette by third choice keeper Daniele Padelli, as Conte looked to thank his entire squad for their efforts across the campaign.
