Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello believes the club’s Scudetto success this term was made all the more remarkable by the unique circumstances of the season.

Antonio Conte’s side secured the club’s first Serie A title since 2010 and rounded off their campaign with a 5-1 thrashing of Udinese at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza today, before lifting the trophy.

Speaking to Inter TV following the Scudetto celebrations on the pitch after the final whistle, Antonello reflected on a memorable campaign, marked by matches played behind closed doors due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is a huge satisfaction, today is the celebration of all the Inter people. Reaching this goal as an Administrator and as a great Inter fan fills me with pride,” the 55-year-old claimed.

“I thank everyone because it was not easy to achieve this historic result in such a particular season, it is everyone’s merit, even those who work behind the scenes.

“The sporting result was extraordinary, because the conditions in which this season was played were really difficult and unpredictable.

“The sporting side deserve a special round of applause, but also the professionals who move the car behind the scenes. This goal was in everyone’s focus and in the end it materialised.”

Having won the title earlier in the month, Inter were able to parade the trophy in front of 1,000 attendees at the stadium and more gathered outside, as Italy slowly begins to ease restrictions. The director felt that it was a positive sign and was optimistic for the future.

“The party has been prolonged in recent weeks and having a thousand people at the stadium today is an important sign of hope.

“We hope it will be a good omen for next season, because this year we only missed our fans. They would have accompanied us wonderfully on this triumphant journey,” he concluded.
