Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia revealed that he had been aiming to win silverware with the club since first arriving, after lifting the Serie A title today.
The centre-back played the full match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza today as the Nerazzurri thrashed Udinese 5-1, and was able to raise the Scudetto following the final whistle.
In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, the 33-year-old was delighted to have added to his 2011 Coppa Italia triumph, after striving for silverware since arriving in 2010.
“From the first day that I came here I aspired to win with Inter. I won a Coppa Italia then waited for many long years and in the end had this joy, which I dedicate to my family,” the former Italy international claimed.
“It was a long journey, but this Scudetto repays all the sacrifices I made. I’m happy for all of us, it’s a reward for the work done over the years.
“We have always worked hard and rowed in the same direction. This is the icing on the cake.”
Ranocchia is out of contract this summer and his future has not been decided, but he insisted that he was not focusing on that yet.
“I have not the faintest idea if I’ll return, from tomorrow we will think about the future. Now let’s enjoy this day.”
The former Bari defender joined Inter from Genoa in 2010 and has made 216 appearances for the Nerazzurri, interrupted by loan spells at Hull City and Sampdoria.
