Inter captain Samir Handanovic is in line for a momentous occasion against former team Udinese today, as he lifts the Serie A title and breaks a club record in the process.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Slovenia international will be presented with the Scudetto after the final whistle after winning his first piece of silverware since joining in 2012.

It will also see Handanovic take to the pitch for Inter in Serie A for the 329th time, surpassing Walter Zenga and breaking his record for most league appearances by a goalkeeper in the club’s history.

The 37-year-old still trails Zenga considerably in appearances across all competitions however, with his 389th outing still 84 matches short of the record 473.

The newspaper suggests that Handanovic would require two full seasons as a starter in order to break the overall record, and whilst he is expected to retain his position next year there are plans to bring in a long-term replacement, putting his chances in doubt.
