Inter President Steven Zhang claimed that the hard work that has gone into the club since Suning took over in 2016 has paid off with the Scudetto this season.

The Nerrazzuri ended an 11-year wait for the Serie A title this season, and wrapped up their campaign with a comprehensive 5-1 thrashing of Udinese today at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, before lifting the trophy following the final whistle.

In an interview with Inter TV after the game, Zhang took the opportunity to thank everyone involved at the club and felt the title was reward for the work put in over Suning’s tenure.

“Of course, winning the Scudetto thanks to the group. We have worked hard for the past five years. You don’t win by chance. Sometimes the successes are due to luck, it can happen, but in this case they are the result of five years of work,” Zhang declared.

The 29-year-old also dedicated the triumph to Inter’s supporters, who have been unable to see the team win the title in a season played behind closed doors.

“I cannot describe my feelings in words, we know exactly how much we have worked to achieve this success. We hope to share and give joy to all Inter fans in the world.

“I hope the fans are happy and that everyone enjoyed the moment. That’s why sport and entertainment exists, to give joy. With all this work and great confidence we can really make things better.”

Suning took over Inter in 2016 after buying the club out from consortiums owned by former Presidents Erick Thohir and Massimo Moratti.
