Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi spoke of his pride at being able to etch his name into the history of the club after winning the Serie A title this season.
The Morocco international featured as the Nerazzurri thrashed Udinese 5-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza today, bringing to a close a campaign in which they won their first league title since 2010.
In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the final whistle and the trophy celebrations, Hakimi reflected on his season and his impact on the club.
“I am very happy to have helped the team and the club and to enter the history of a club like Inter. Winning a league title here is not easy,” he claimed.
Hakimi has become an integral part of Antonio Conte’s side since joining from Real Madrid last summer and admitted that the coach had been an influential figure during his maiden campaign.
“I think it was a year where I learned a lot. The coach asks me to push forward but people think that I struggle defensively, but I have improved a lot and I am happy for this too. We must always improve and always do well.”
After winning the Scudetto so convincingly, Hakimi insisted that Inter were now targeting further and more sustained success.
“Yes we can start a cycle, this team can do good things in the future. We expect this of ourselves,” the 22-year-old concluded.
