Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi has revealed that he regrets not being able to join the club’s supporters in celebrating their Scudetto success this season.
The Nerazzurri won a first Serie A title since 2010 and were able to finally lift the trophy at the conclusion of their last league game, a 5-1 victory over Udinese at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza today.
Whilst 1,000 spectators were allowed inside the stadium and thousands more gathered outside, Hakimi admitted that he regretted not being able to join with the fans properly, in an interview with Inter TV.
“I’m happy because I saw the fans out and celebrating. It’s not easy to win after so many years,” the Morocco international claimed.
“I would have liked to celebrate everything with the fans, I played here with a different team in front of them but I wanted to celebrate with them.”
The former Real Madrid wing-back insisted that Inter’s fans had always provided them with support, despite not being able to attend matches this season.
“They have not always been here with us physically but they have sent us many messages. And now they are celebrating this and I am very happy.”
Hakimi has enjoyed a fine debut season at Inter, scoring seven goals and proving 10 assists in all competitions, and picked out his best memories from playing at home.
“The match against Juventus (a 2-0 win) and my brace against Bologna are my favourite moments at San Siro,” the 22-year-old revealed.
