Milan’s mayor Beppe Sala has admitted to being concerned about the impact of Inter’s Scudetto party later today as the city battles the spread of COVID-19.
The Nerazzurri won their first Serie A title since 2010 this season and will mark the achievement with a party at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza following today’s finale against Udinese, with the public being able to attend and join in.
In an interview with ANSA at the WeWorld Festival yesterday, the mayor conceded that he was worried about the event causing further coronavirus cases, but that the models in place to reduce the risk had been tested and considered safe.
“I’m always worried, but we are working on it with the Prefecture, the police and with Inter themselves,” Sala revealed.
“The deputy mayor, Anna Scavuzzo , has had a series of meetings in recent days. I am in contact with the prefect. Our model is tested, but as always it depends on the number of people who will turn up. It seems to me though that the prefecture and the police are facing it with great seriousness.”
It is expected that around 1,000 people will attend the celebrations, with the crowd made up of employees, sponsors, and relatives of the players.
