Inter will head to the Middle East to play Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana, Serie A’s president confirmed today.
The Nerazzurri are Serie A champions and will therefore play the prestigious game for the first time since 2011, while Juventus have qualified by winning the Coppa Italia last week.
Serie A president Paolo Dal Pino confirmed the game would take place in Saudi Arabia, after speculation it could be moved (back to Italy) in recent weeks.
“It will be in Saudi Arabia because that’s what the contract says,” Dal Pino explained, as reported by FcInterNews.it.
“It will take place with fans and it will be extraordinary, because Inter vs Juventus is a great advert for Italian football.”
Inter and Juventus have only met once in the Supercoppa Italiana before, and on that occasion it was the Nerazzurri who emerged victorious.
The match finished 0-0 after 90 minutes back in 2005 before Juan Sebastian Veron scored in extra-time, securing a 1-0 victory for Roberto Mancini’s side.
Inter played Juventus four times this season and won just once, although that was a crucial 2-0 victory at San Siro which put them on course for the Serie A title.
