Antonio Conte would be foolish to leave Inter now, at least if you believe former Nerazzurri midfielder Francesco Moriero.
Conte’s future remains uncertain as he awaits a face-to-face meeting with Steven Zhang and the Nerazzurri’s directors, which might take place today.
Inter have just won their first Serie A title in 11 years, but there is no guarantee Conte will stick around to build on his incredible achievement this season.
“Everyone wants Antonio to remain in charge,” Moriero, who played 83 times during a three-year stint at Inter, told TuttoMercatoWeb on Monday.
“He must stay at Inter, he’s begun a cycle here.
“It’s normal Conte wants reassurance, he’s a winner and always targets the maximum.
“He will stay if he gets the right reassurance that he can win things, he won’t stay just to take part.”
Conte is widely expected to seek reassurance from Zhang about Suning’s ambitions for the club, following a very difficult season for the Nerazzurri’s finances.
Inter dominated Serie A this season and won the league by 12 points, but it remains to be seen whether Conte will get the chance to build on that success next year.
The Nerazzurri might in fact be forced to sell key players in a bid to solve their economic problems.
