Beppe Marotta has two ideas to replace Antonio Conte at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said it was ‘increasingly likely’ Conte would leave the Nerazzurri as things stood, with no sign of him meeting Steven Zhang to discuss his future.

If Conte left, Marotta would have an excellent alternative lined up in Massimiliano Allegri, who already worked with Marotta during his time at Juventus.

However, Simone Inzaghi would also be in contention to replace Conte if he did not sign a new contract at Lazio.

Allegri would seem the obvious choice for Inter – assuming he was still available if and when Conte left – because he is a company man who could keep the club competitive under Suning even in a period of austerity.

Inter will be hoping it doesn’t reach that stage, although it feels as if the club are in the same position as they were nine months ago when Conte seemed likely to leave.
