Stefano Sensi faces a race against time to recover for next month’s European Championships, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Italy boss Roberto Mancini would do everything to ensure the Inter midfielder can be included in his 26-man squad for the tournament.
Sensi picked up a thigh injury during Inter’s 5-1 win over Udinese on Sunday, but he is still hopeful of recovering in time to play for the Azzurri.
The 25-year-old will be closely monitored by Italy’s doctors in the coming days, with Mancini due to name his final squad on May 30 (although he can modify it before UEFA’s deadline on June 1).
Sensi has endured another injury-ravaged season at Inter, playing just 635 minutes in all competitions under Antonio Conte.
The former Sassuolo midfielder is a favourite of Mancini’s though and played well for Italy during March’s international break, scoring in a 2-0 win in Lithuania in FIFA World Cup qualifying.
