Inter are likely to be handed another tough group in next season’s UEFA Champions League, according to a report in the Italian media today.
The Nerazzurri are back in pot 1 after winning the Serie A title, but as per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, there are multiple European giants lurking in pot 2.
Six of the eight pot 1 spots are already set, with the other two set to be filled by Chelsea, Manchester United, Villarreal or Zenit St Petersburg (depending on the outcomes of this week’s Champions League and Europa League finals).
As things stand, Inter’s best-case scenario would be a group with Sevilla, Ajax and Dynamo Kiev, although it is too early to make proper forecasts at the moment.
Inter’s participation in the Champions League ensures they will receive part of UEFA’s enormous €2 billion prize money, in comparison to €465 million for the Europa League and €235 for the new Conference League.
