Antonio Conte is set to leave Inter after Suning failed to provide the reassurance he wanted, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Conte had hoped up until last night that Suning would reconsider their plans to cut costs and sell players, if he threatened to leave the club.
Suning have shown no sign of having second thoughts though, because their objective is to keep Inter financially stable with or without one of the world’s best coaches.
Inter will hope to begin operating with big ambitions again further down the line, the report explained, once their finances will be back under control.
Conte has been coherent with himself throughout his two-year stint at Inter, and he knows he could not possibly stay if Inter were planning to downscale operations.
He is desperate to win at all times and his fiery character wouldn’t be compatible with reduced ambitions, so he knows it is time to leave.
Conte would be in danger of losing his temper if he stayed and watched Inter dismantle his title-winning squad, which would not be beneficial to anyone.
He wants to avoid this scenario both for himself and Inter, because ultimately no one knows Conte better than the man himself.
