Antonio Conte is increasingly likely to leave Inter but the story is not over just yet, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per FcInter1908.it, Inter’s directors (Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio) will make one final attempt to mediate with Conte and persuade him to stay for next season.
Inter have just won their 19th Serie A title and there is a chance to win a second star with a competitive squad, despite the club’s difficult financial position.
The chances of Conte staying are slim, the report admitted, but last summer’s precedent at Villa Bellini means everyone should remain cautious for now.
Conte seemed all but certain to leave Inter 12 months ago, and then his fate changed completely after meeting owners Suning and talking through the club’s plans.
Inter ended up winning the Scudetto several months later, and the hope is that a similar U-turn can be performed on this occasion too.
Conte is nonetheless ‘more out than in’ at Inter currently, following Suning’s decision to cut costs in the summer.
