Inter are expected to hire Simone Inzaghi from Lazio if Antonio Conte leaves the club, according to a report in the Italian media today.

SempreInter.com revealed exclusively today that the Nerazzurri had contacted Inzaghi about the job on Monday, receiving a positive response.

La Stampa’s print edition has taken a similar stance, reporting that Inter would probably call Inzaghi after previously contacting Max Allegri.

Inzaghi would be preferred to Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic, the other candidate, because he uses a 3-5-2 system and would be able to continue Conte’s system.

It remains to be seen what kind of resources Inzaghi would have available if he did replace Conte, the report warned, because Inter are set for a difficult summer in the transfer market.

With this in mind, La Stampa argued it was ‘even more incomprehensible’ that Suning had chosen not to sell the club to BC Partners for around €800 million between February and March.
