Inter are close to appointing Simone Inzaghi as their new head coach, according to a report in the Italian media.

Corriere della Sera believe Inzaghi is on the verge of becoming the Nerazzurri’s boss, replacing Antonio Conte after he left the club last night.

Inzaghi’s agent Tulio Tinti is currently at Inter’s offices in Milan where is negotiating a deal with their directors, Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio, and apparently an agreement is not far away.

Inter need a medium-to-high-profile coach, the report argued, in order to send a message to their supporters after Conte’s departure last night, and Inzaghi might be the right choice.

Inzaghi seemed certain to stay at Lazio after agreeing terms for a new contract with Claudio Lotito last night, following hours of discussions in Rome.

However, everything is changing again this afternoon and now Inzaghi appears set to come to San Siro, for a new and exciting challenge in his coaching career.

Inzaghi took charge of Lazio in 2016 and has guided them to the Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles, as well as two fourth-place finishes in Serie A (one of which secured UEFA Champions League qualification, in the 2019-20 season).
