Alessandro Antonello has encouraged Inter fans to stay confident as the club begin life after Antonio Conte.

Inter will replace Conte with former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi, after he reportedly agreed a two-year deal to join the Nerazzurri for next season.

The club have endured a turbulent week as they prepare for a very difficult summer transfer campaign, but Antonello has urged calm ahead of the storm.

“We’re working to find the right solution, so we need to be confident,” Inter’s chief executive for corporate matters told reporters today (via FcInterNews.it), when asked about Inzaghi.

“There’s a project and a strategy, although obviously sometimes you need to review your plans.

“We’ll ensure that next season we perform to a level that is worthy of the Italian champions.”

Inter won their first Serie A title in 11 years this season but supporters are concerned they will not be contenders for the next campaign, with Suning looking to cut costs.

Antonello assured they did not need to worry about that, explaining: “The objective is to always stay in the first few positions.

“It’ll be a very difficult competition because the other teams are strengthening.

“We want to make Inter stable and consistent, the situation isn’t easy but not only for us; the entire footballing industry is suffering.

“We need to balance the sporting side of things with the economic-financial side.”

Antonello was then asked about Inter’s plans for a new stadium, which have ground to a halt due to concerns from Milan mayor Beppe Sala about Suning’s future.

“There are no updates,” Antonello added.

“We’re proceeding with the preparation of the documentation requested by the city council.

“San Siro remains a strategic project for us and for AC Milan – and in a moment where investing in a stadium would boost the club and the city, we think it would be opportune that a decision is reached.

“As soon as the council administration delivers a verdict on the public interest of the project, we’ll proceed with our project as per the law on stadiums.

“We’re confident we can move forward in that sense.

“It doesn’t depend just on us though, you’d need to ask the mayor; we wanted the stadium ready for 2026 and we hope we can resolve the impasse as soon as possible.”
