Inter have picked Simone Inzaghi to replace Antonio Conte for three reasons, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere della Sera’s print edition said Inzaghi got the nod because he knows Serie A, plays with Conte’s 3-5-2 system and will enter the club with the spirit of a ‘company man’.

Inter are likely to need one or two painful sacrifices in the transfer window and Inzaghi is expected to accept those necessary decisions without kicking up a fuss.

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio agreed a two-year deal with the former Lazio boss last night, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.

Conte left Inter by mutual consent on Wednesday because his position was ‘irreconcilable’ with that of president Steven Zhang, the Milan-based paper explained.

Inter’s former boss was inflexible in wanting an ambitious project for next season, while Suning were determined to pursue their policy of reducing costs.

Conte’s lack of communication with Zhang was another problem which led to their breakdown in relations, the report added.
