Milan Skriniar admits he was surprised by Antonio Conte’s departure from Inter but insists he is not going anywhere.

Conte parted company with the Nerazzurri by mutual consent on Wednesday after two seasons in charge, having led the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Inter will replace Conte by appointing former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi on a two-year deal, with an official announcement coming soon.

“Conte leaving surprised all of us,” Skriniar told Sport Aktuality (via FcInter1908.it) in Slovakia today.

“I only found out yesterday via the media.

“I don’t have any more information on it, I too am curious to find out what happens now, the coach’s departure is a new development.

“I said a while ago that I want to stay at Inter and defend the title, this is true.

“I’ve never thought about the rumours saying I would leave.”

Inter have had a turbulent week between transfer rumours and Conte’s shock exit, but Skriniar is still on cloud nine after they secured the Scudetto earlier this month.

The 26-year-old was a crucial part of Conte’s side this season as they blew away the opposition, securing the title with four games to spare.

“It was a nice feeling, it’s unreal,” Skriniar added.

“I remember when we saw the fans celebrate in front of San Siro during the last game (against Udinese).

“They were waiting for us to lift the trophy; as soon as we won, I took the Slovakia flag to celebrate.

“It’s a success for Slovakia too, I’m proud to be Slovakian and this year I’ve brought the Italian title to Slovakia.

“It’s been a long and beautiful journey.”

Skriniar is now turning his attention to this summer’s European Championships, where Slovakia will be in Group E alongside Spain, Sweden and Poland.
