Despite being linked with a move to Inter, Real Betis full-back Emerson Royal has claimed that he will return to parent club Barcelona next season.
The Brazilian had been suggested as a target for the Nerazzurri as they look to replace Achraf Hakimi, who has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, and is expected to depart this summer.
However, speaking in a press conference whilst on Brazil duty ahead of the Copa America, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Emerson revealed that Barcelona were keen to bring him back after two years on loan at Betis.
“Everyone knows that I have a three-year contract with Barcelona and that I will be back there from 1 July,” the 22-year-old declared.
“As I had already told the media, Barca are already in contact with Betis and have decided that they want to use me for next season.
“I am happy because it’s the club which I have dreamed of playing for since the beginning of my career. Receiving this recognition is fundamental for me. All players would like play for Barca. I can’t wait to go back to prove my worth and confirm myself in the team.”
Emerson joined Barcelona from Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro in January 2019 but was immediately loaned out to Betis, where has has amassed 79 appearances.
The full-back made his Brazil debut in a 3-0 win over South Korea in November 2019 but is yet to add to his solitary international cap.
