Inter have triggered a one-year extension to the contract of Danilo D’Ambrosio but could still see the defender walk away this summer.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri have taken up an option to extend D’Ambrosio’s contract to avoid losing him for free next month.

However, the player has a counter-clause in his deal that will allow him to depart if he receives a more suitable offer from elsewhere.

D’Ambrosio has attracted interest from fellow Serie A clubs Napoli, Roma, and Fiorentina, and it is felt that Inter would struggle to convince him to remain, particularly as he has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Should D’Ambrosio depart, incoming Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will turn to former club Lazio and move for Romania international Stefan Radu, who is out of contract this summer.

The 34-year-old would be a cheap option and his wages would fit into the Nerazzurri’s model as they seek a back up for Alessandro Bastoni.
