Following his appointment as Napoli coach, Luciano Spalletti could turn to former club Inter to swoop for Danilo D’Ambrosio and Matias Vecino.
Spalletti was hired as Gennaro Gattuso’s replacement at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona yesterday as he took up his first role since leaving Inter in 2019.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, expected departures could see the new coach return to Inter to strengthen his squad, as he attempts to lure defender D’Ambrosio on a free transfer.
Elseid Hysaj, Nikola Maksimovic, and Faouzi Ghoulam are all out of contract at Napoli this summer and Spalletti will look to plug the gap at the back with the arrival of D’Ambrosio, himself set to be a free agent next month.
Similarly, the return of Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea following a season on loan leaves a vacancy in midfield and Spalletti is hoping to sign Vecino to replace him.
The Uruguay international was a key figure during Spalletti’s time at Inter and the tactician is ready to reunite with him in Naples.
Napoli will also challenge Inter for the signing of Chelsea’s Italian international left-back Emerson Palmieri after working with him at Roma.
