Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has been reassured that the squad will remain competitive under incoming coach Simone Inzaghi and is ready to remain at the club.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgian international had been concerned about Inter’s ability to defend their Serie A title next season following the departure of former coach Antonio Conte, and suggestions of key player sales.
However, Lukaku has been convinced to remain committed to the project after being assured that only one significant sale would be necessary, as Achraf Hakimi edges towards the exit.
The former Manchester United striker is set to become the focal point under Inzaghi and the club are ready to indulge him to ensure he remains happy at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Elsewhere, Inzaghi has already begun formulating his plans for the squad and is keen to keep hold of midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, despite efforts to cash in on the Croatian.
The ex-Lazio tactician also envisages important roles for Christian Eriksen and Matias Vecino in his midfield, whilst Nicolo Barella is considered a crucial component.
Inter are set for changes on the flanks however, as Ivan Perisic is likely to follow Hakimi in leaving the club.
The Nerazzurri will target Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi and Emerson Royal of Barcelona for the right, whilst Hellas Verona loanee Federico Dimarco and Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri are being suggested for the left wing.
Inzaghi would also like to retain forward Alexis Sanchez but a fourth-choice striker is set to be considered as Inter look to move Andrea Pinamonti on.
In defence, long-serving centre-back Andrea Ranocchia is likely to be released and followed by Aleksandar Kolarov, whilst Inzaghi will attempt to bring Stefan Radu in from Lazio.
