Romelu Lukaku received a pleasant surprise yesterday when Simone Inzaghi called the striker, according to a report in the Italian media.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Inter’s new head coach got in touch to reassure the Belgian about the club’s project, following the departure of Antonio Conte.
Inzaghi spoke with Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio last week and now he has got in touch with Lukaku, who remains a star player for Inter despite Conte’s exit.
Lukaku was very pleased with Inzaghi’s call and did not expect to receive a call, and now the pair are set to meet for the first time in July when pre-season training starts.
Inzaghi wanted to make sure Lukaku didn’t have concerns about the direction in which Inter were headed, after his mentor left the club by mutual consent last week.
Lukaku is being linked with a move to Chelsea in the UK today, but it seems the 27-year-old is going to stay at Inter.
