Marcelo Brozovic will remain a key player for Inter next season if Simone Inzaghi gets his wish, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta.it said Inter’s new head coach sung the praises of the Croatian during his recent video call with club directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio.

Inzaghi wants to build his 3-5-2 system around Brozovic, just as Antonio Conte did during his second season in charge of the Nerazzurri.

However, the midfielder is out of contract next summer and there is still no guarantee he will remain at Inter for the 2021-22 campaign.

Brozovic is considered crucial by Inter’s owners Suning as well as Inzaghi, but they won’t want to go too far in satisfying his requests for a contract extension.

The 28-year-old wants to increase his annual salary from the current figure of €3.5 million, and Marotta and Ausilio will do what they can to grant that wish when they meet Brozovic’s father (who currently acts as his agent).

It is too early to make a prediction on Brozovic’s future, the Milan-based publication admitted, because it will depend also on the offers Inter receive, with Paris Saint-Germain thought to be an attractive option for the player.

If it were down to Inzaghi, though, Brozovic would definitely stay at Inter and he has already made that clear to those above him.
