Inter would not necessarily replace Lautaro Martinez with another pure striker, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said Lautaro’s decision would be critical to sorting his future, because Beppe Marotta will not keep players who do not want to play for the Nerazzurri.

Inter are absolutely intending to keep El Toro, but if he did leave then Simone Inzaghi might want a player with different characteristics to replace him.

Inzaghi would probably want a player more like Joaquin Correa, who played behind Ciro Immobile in more of a 3-5-1-1 system at Lazio.

Antonio Conte had suggested Inter could sign Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic to replace Lautaro, the Rome-based paper added.

Lautaro’s future remains unclear for now though, with interest most notably from La Liga in the form of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

The 23-year-old was a key figure in Inter’s Serie A title triumph under Conte but now he has a big decision to make about next season.
