Romelu Lukaku has no intention of leaving Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said everyone at the club was convinced he would stay, despite interest from Chelsea, because that is what Lukaku wants.

Lukaku has made that clear to Inter’s directors and Simone Inzaghi, his new head coach, while he remains a very active participant in the squad’s WhatsApp group.

The 28-year-old ‘talks like a leader’ and enjoys making jokes with his teammates, not least with Lautaro Martinez who he hopes will still be his strike partner next season.

Lukaku’s annual salary will rise to €8.5 million plus bonuses next season, the Rome-based paper noted, but the most important thing is that he has reassured everyone about wanting to stay.

Steven Zhang wants to build a competitive squad for the 2021-22 campaign and that involves Lukaku and Lautaro staying up front, despite Suning’s plans to cut costs.
