Inter have made a great choice in hiring Simone Inzaghi, according to former Lazio defender Dusan Basta.
The Nerazzurri have picked the former Lazio boss as their replacement for Antonio Conte, who left the club by mutual consent last week.
Inzaghi is due to be appointed on a two-year deal, although Inter haven’t announced his arrival yet because he has issues to sort with Lazio.
“I think Inzaghi will do very well at Inter, he’s definitely good enough for them,” Basta, who played under Inzaghi for three seasons at Lazio, told Tuttosport for Monday’s print edition.
“Simone has improved a lot, we’re talking about a great coach.
“He knows how to get the best out of his players and manages the team very well.
“He’s also a great psychologist: he understands people and knows how to speak with others.
“This is a quality which allows him to extract the best from his players, and he works with an incredible staff as well.
“It doesn’t matter to Inzaghi what your name is, it matters how you work.”
Inzaghi spent five seasons coaching Lazio and secured three trophies during that time, winning one Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.
He also guided the Biancocelesti to two fourth-place finishes in Serie A, one of which secured them qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
“I think the results can give you the best possible answer to how things went,” Basta argued.
“Inzaghi did very well at Lazio in all these seasons, just remaining in charge for this long tells you he’s done a great job.
“He’s also a great person so I’m happy for him.”
Inzaghi will undoubtedly be under enormous pressure to succeed at Inter, who will start next season as defending champions, but Basta is convinced that won’t be a problem.
“There’s loads of pressure in the capital, the battle between Roma and Lazio is very strong,” the former Serbian international added.
“I think it’s more or less a similar situation to what he’ll have at Inter.”
