Inter are struggling to make progress in their bid to offload Radja Nainggolan, according to a leading Italian transfer expert.

Gianluca Di Marzio (via FcInter1908.it) said Cagliari’s directors have met the Nerazzurri to discuss a permanent deal for the midfielder, but it won’t be easy to find an agreement.

Inter want to release Nainggolan to rejoin the Rossoblu but they are not prepared to give him a payoff for terminating his contract.

At the moment, the deal is ‘difficult’ because Cagliari cannot guarantee Nainggolan the €4.5 million annual salary after tax he would stand to get from Inter in the final year of his contract.

The chance of an agreement being reached still exists, Di Marzio assured, not least because Cagliari are considering spreading Nainggolan’s wages over several seasons.

Inter sent the Belgian back on loan to Sardinia for the final six months of the 2020-21 season, where Nainggolan helped Cagliari avoid relegation from Serie A, and now they want him gone for good.
