Arturo Vidal has confirmed he tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The Inter midfielder was with Chile’s national team preparing for their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.

However, Vidal will be unable to play in either of those matches and is left hoping he will recover in time for their Copa America campaign later this month.

“Unfortunately I discovered I was positive for COVID-19 during a test today,” Vidal wrote on Instagram.

“This came after a friend tested positive after a precautionary check, despite being asymptomatic.

“I won’t be in action this time (against Argentina or Bolivia), but I’ll support my teammates with all my strength.

“I’ll recover soon so I can wear the Chile shirt again, and I ask you please to get vaccinated if you can.

“Vamos Chile!”

Vidal joined Inter from Barcelona last summer but his first season with the Nerazzurri was very disappointing, despite the club’s Serie A title triumph.

The 34-year-old made 30 appearances in all competitions under Antonio Conte, scoring twice and providing two assists.

Vidal did not feature during the last two months of the season after he underwent knee surgery in March, but now he is close to regaining full fitness.

Chile will be hoping he is back to his best soon because their hopes of Copa America glory depend on him among others.
