Inter are planning to offer Nicolo Barella a three-year contract extension, according to a report in the Italian media.

Calciomercato.com said Barella was one of three Italian players Inter wanted to build around in future seasons, alongside Alessandro Bastoni and Stefano Sensi.

Inter are ready to offer Barella a deal through to 2024 with an increase on his annual salary, which is currently €2.5 million after tax, just as they did last week with Bastoni.

What’s more, the Nerazzurri will also give Barella the chance to become their future captain when Samir Handanovic steps aside.

Barella enjoyed a spectacular second season at Inter as he led Antonio Conte’s midfield towards their first Serie A title in 11 years.

The 24-year-old scored three goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions, demonstrating a remarkable development which Inter believe warrants a new and improved contract.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have all shown an interest in Barella, but he looks set to continue with Inter.
