Inter are optimistic about securing a deal to sell Joao Mario, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the midfielder was determined to rejoin Sporting CP permanently after impressing on loan in Portugal in the 2020-21 season.

Inter want €8 million to sell Joao Mario, which is the fee needed to generate a capital gain because the 28-year-old is worth just over €6 million on their balance sheet.

Sporting CP have yet to offer that figure and talks are ongoing, but there is a degree of confidence that negotiations will end in a deal.

The newly-crowned Liga NOS champions originally wanted to reduce Inter’s demands by including a couple of youngsters in their offer, but it seems they will need to put their hand in their pocket.

Joao Mario’s fee will probably be spread across several years to make it more affordable, while his annual salary of €2.7 million will get the same treatment.
