Inter are confident they can sign Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea, according to a leading Italian broadcaster today.

Sky Sport Italia (via FcInterNews.it) said the Nerazzurri had chosen the Italian-Brazilian to fill their vacancy in the left wing-back position.

Emerson has been a target for Inter for some time and now he really could leave Chelsea, having fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

Inter are optimistic they can reach an agreement with the Premier League club, with Emerson due to replace Ashley Young when the Englishman’s contract expires next month.

Emerson has already played for Roma and Palermo in Serie A and he was named last night in Roberto Mancini’s 26-man Italy squad for the European Championships.

He scored once in 15 appearances across all competitions during the 2020-21 season, which came in a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid during their last 16 tie in the UEFA Champions League.

Antonio Conte was known to be keen on a deal for Emerson but it looks as if the 26-year-old is still Inter’s first-choice target after Conte’s exit.
