Inter will keep the spine of their title-winning team intact for Simone Inzaghi, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Calciomercato.com, Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has always prioritised having a ‘central block’ of players upon whom his teams can build their successes.

Inter’s spine is formed of Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij, Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku and those are the men who will not be sold this summer.

Marotta has reassured Inzaghi about the futures of those four, with Inter set to announce the former Lazio boss as their new head coach tomorrow.

Handanovic, De Vrij, Barella and Lukaku will help Inter keep the core of Antonio Conte’s dominant side together, and so the club will sacrifice other players if necessary.

Achraf Hakimi and Lautaro Martinez are two players that would be sold with ‘less concern’, for instance, assuming Inter received adequate offers for either or both.

Inzaghi has already been in contact with Lukaku to speak about Inter’s plans for next season, while Barella is the heart and soul of the midfield and cannot be sacrificed.

De Vrij knows Inzaghi well from their time working together at Lazio, while Handanovic is Inter’s captain and it would be a risk to lose their first-choice goalkeeper in a delicate moment like this.
