Inter could seek to bring Miralem Pjanic back to Serie A, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri could spark another ‘Derby d’Italia’ in the transfer window by battling Juventus for the Barcelona midfielder.

Pjanic is worth €42 million for the Blaugrana at present and that is too much for any club in Serie A to spend on him.

However, Barca could be tempted to release Pjanic on a straight loan deal in order to get his salary off their wage bill.

Inter confirmed Simone Inzaghi’s appointment as their new head coach today and he is said to be ‘intrigued’ by the prospect of signing Pjanic, who previously played in Italy for Juventus and Roma.

The Nerazzurri must first sort their finances by selling one or two big players, but once that is settled they can begin seeking reinforcements for their Serie A title defence.
