Simone Inzaghi will get the chance to meet Inter president Steven Zhang for the first time today, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition confirmed Inter would officially announce Inzaghi’s appointment as head coach today, with the former Lazio boss due at the club’s training complex.
Inzaghi will analyse the facilities he has available at Inter, but more importantly he will be able to speak directly with Zhang and learn more about Inter’s project.
Zhang will reassure Inzaghi that Inter remain ambitious and that their only sacrifice in the transfer market will be Achraf Hakimi.
Inter have no intention of dismantling their Serie A title-winning squad, the Milan-based paper assured, but Inzaghi knows full well that they must sell before sign reinforcements.
The Nerazzurri will need to focus on sorting their wing-back options, with only Matteo Darmian certain to stay from last year’s crop of players.
Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic both have contracts which expire in 2022 and so the Croatians’ futures need to be sorted soon.
Inzaghi has already spoken with Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio and will remain in contact with the pair in the next few days, as Inter step up preparation for next season.
